This Union, Wash., home crowns a hillside lot with Hood Canal views. In spite of owning the land for 30 years, the construction project not only involved an out–of–state owner, but five engineers. More than 1,000 cubic yards of dirt were moved to make way for the cedar home. A massive retainer wall that contains 64 yards of concrete wraps around two sides of the home.
The great room offers panoramic views of the Olympic Mountains and water where Orca whale pods swim. The owner requested cable railing on the deck, rather than cedar pickets, which keeps the view unobstructed.
The main bath is a focal point of the home. The owner restored a classic claw foot bathtub from childhood. A glass block window provides the backdrop and leftover soffit materials became a bonus as wainscoting.
